Traitors is a tense psychological game where 22 contestants come together in a castle in the Scottish Highlands to complete various tasks and win a prize pot collectively. The only change from the standard games is that some of the players are unknown Traitors who try to trick and sabotage the rest. It’s full of cunning, lies, deception and tension and the show continues to be an intriguing reality competition for both the players and its audience.
The Traitors is an Emmy Award-winning international reality television franchise based on the Dutch social deduction game De Verraders. This is a psychological contest in which a team of contestants enters a historic place, such as a castle or manor house, to perform missions and make a big prize pool. But there are a select few who are secretly branded “Traitors”. They aim to “murder” the “Faithfuls” in the cover of darkness and steal the prize money. The Faithfuls must unmask and banish them at daily round-table votes.

The Traitors US: Streaming on Peacock’s platform. It is hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming and is known for inviting not only reality tv stars but also ordinary contestants as guests. The Traitors UK: The BBC One hit show hosted by Claudia Winkleman Most of the players in the game are civilians. The fourth season ended in January 2026 with Rachel Duffy and Stephen Libby winning and becoming the first winners from the UK adaptation of the show. The Traitors India: The Indian version, hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, saw its first season airing mid-2025 on the streaming platform Prime Video. The premise is of contestants being played the game of deception in the Suryagarh Palace.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
The Cloak of Night: Every night, the Traitors gather in secret to choose one Faithful contestant to be “murdered” and immediately eliminated from the game.
The Breakfast Reveal: Contestants only learn who was eliminated the next morning when that person fails to show up for breakfast.
The Round Table: At the end of the day all the players sit together to argue, accuse each other and make a public vote to banish a suspected Traitor.
The End Game: If there are any Traitors left at the final showdown, they get to take home the whole prize fund. If only Faithfuls are left, they divide up the money equally
